To support the hobby of gardening by adapting the genus Iris within the Greater Prescott Area. This club is open to all: novice and experienced irisanians.

Prescott Area Iris Society shall be conducted on a nonprofit basis. Its aims shall be to stimulate an interest in iris throughout the Prescott area and to bring together in friendly cooperation, for educational and scientific purposes, those interested in growing irises of any and all species, by exchanging ideas on their culture and breeding and by holding public exhibits.

Welcome to the Prescott Area Iris Society

We are a group of dedicated iris lovers who are eager to share our enthusiasm with others. PAIS is affiliated with the national American Iris Society and we encourage our members to join AIS individually.

The Prescott area is excellent for growing iris. However, the usual cultural guidelines need to be modified to accommodate our altitude, soil and growing season. You’ve come to the right place for specialized information on growing iris in this area.

Most of us start by just wanting to grow a few lovely flowers. As we learn more about iris and realize how well suited they are to our area, we become interested in growing named varieties and keeping up with the latest developments and the newest varieties.

Dedicated iris gardeners identify their iris with plant markers and enjoy ‘showing off’ their prized blooms at our annual Spring Show and Exhibition.

Everyone looks forward to our annual fundraising event - the summer rhizome sales. This is a great source for reasonably priced, named varieties. Members generously donate their iris to the club when they renew their over-crowded beds. Volunteers separate, groom and mark the iris for sale. Prices are based on how recently the variety was introduced. The public is invited and at the opening bell, a polite scramble ensues. It is great fun for a worthwhile cause.

We all take a break to enjoy the periodic newsletter. Members are encouraged to submit stories or articles from their personal experiences and research.

Four meetings a year focus on iris related topics. They always feature a free exchange of questions, answers, ideas and opinions shared among friends. Bring your questions for the experts and share your expertise with the rest of us. Don’t be bashful, join the fun! We need your enthusiastic participation in order to insure the continued success of our group.
